📦 Universal Unboxing & Acclimation Protocol
Shipping exposes plants to darkness, temperature swings, and environmental stress. Following a stable acclimation process helps bridge the transition between our greenhouse and your home.
The First 48 Hours
- Unbox immediately: Remove packing materials and allow fresh airflow around the foliage.
- Inspect roots carefully: Healthy roots should be white or tan and firm. Remove mushy roots with sterilized scissors if necessary.
- Hydration check: If the substrate is completely dry, lightly water using distilled or RO water.
Days 1–14: The Humidity Bridge
- High humidity start: Use a clear bin or propagation chamber above 70% humidity.
- Gradual airflow: Every few days, slightly increase airflow to slowly transition the plant into ambient home conditions.
- Avoid stress: Do not repot, fertilize, or move repeatedly during the first 3–4 weeks.
🪴 The Plant Nook Substrate Standards
We primarily use two systems to maintain healthy root development and airflow.
1) Semi-Hydro Mother Plant Method
- Preferred setup: Lechuza Pon paired with Naked Root Pots.
- Capillary action: Pon wicks water upward while reducing waterlogged conditions.
- 360° aeration: Open-sided pots improve gas exchange and reduce root binding.
2) The Plant Nook Chunky Aroid Mix
Our recommended tropical mix contains 40% Pine Bark, 30% Peat/Coco Coir, 20% Perlite or Orchid Bark, and 10% Worm Castings or Charcoal.

| Anthurium | Filtered bright light | Evenly moist | Velvet foliage prefers higher humidity. |
| Alocasia | Bright indirect | Top 1–2 inches dry | Winter dormancy can be normal. |
| Hoya | Bright indirect | Allow full dry-down | Do not remove flower spurs. |
